Follow The News Chrome extension does not automatically collect any personally identifiable information when you install or use the extension.

If you contact us via email at followthenews.app@gmail.com, we may receive the personal information you choose to share (such as your email address and name) solely for support purposes.

If you choose to join our waiting list for upcoming paid features, we will collect your email address to send you product updates and marketing communications.

Article & Chat Content Processing

To generate summaries and answers, the extension sends the current article text and your chat questions to the OpenAI API. This data is transmitted directly from your browser to OpenAI and is used only for producing the requested analysis.

OpenAI may charge you for the tokens consumed by these API calls; any such costs are billed directly to your personal OpenAI account and are not processed by us.

We do not store or log article content, questions, or OpenAI responses on any server we control.

Purpose of Processing

• Provide real-time summaries of how other news outlets cover the same story.
• Answer user questions about the article through the in-extension chat.
• Offer product support when you voluntarily contact us.
• Send updates and marketing communications about upcoming paid features (only if you have opted in).

Sharing of Data

Data is shared only with OpenAI (the third-party AI provider) to deliver the extension’s core functionality. We do not share or sell data to any other third parties.

Data Retention

Because we do not store the article or chat content, there is no retention period on our side. Any emails you send us are retained for as long as necessary to resolve your inquiry or as required by law.

Security

The extension operates entirely within your browser. Your OpenAI API key is saved locally in Chrome storage and never transmitted to our servers.

Your Rights (GDPR)
